School Essentials Recycling Drive (SERD)

What SERD does?

We collect donated school essentials from community, including school uniforms in or nearby Puketapapa Local Board area, shoes, stationeries, lunchbox, school bag, and so on (even the uniform with loosing buttons or minor tear, half used notebook etc.).  Our refurbishment volunteer team will clean and repair the donated items. We will give them away free to families who have valid community service card. For families without community service card, we would request a donation (if they are able), to cover the refurbishment and other relevant cost.

We also work with Family Work to run the Uniform and Blanket Bank  to collect pre-loved uniform and blanket for people that can make great use of them.

1.    Which school uniforms are you collecting?

We welcome donated current uniforms from the following schools:

 2.    I have some school uniforms to donate that are not in the list. Can I donate them as well?

Definitely! If the uniforms are from school located in the Puketāpapa Local Board, the Albert-Eden Local Board, or the Waitemata Local Board area, we also welcome them. If the school is located in the west, VisionWest is also running a similar project.

 3.    How can I donate the uniforms and other school supplies?

You can either drop off at Community Action Centre, 766 Sandringham Rd Ext, Mt Roskill (open 9AM-5PM weekdays except public holiday), or Wesley Community Centre, 740 Sandringham Rd, Mt Roskill

Also you can contact us to arrange large donation pick-up. If your school, or organization wishes to join us in recycling school essentials or wish to provide a drop site please contact Vina at 09 6293500 or email vina@migrantactiontrust.org.nz

 4.    I need some school uniforms and supplies for my child, how can I get them?

For uniform, please see our   “Available uniform list”. Check the unspecified uniform in the list as well. For other school essentials please see “Available bag and supplies list”.  If it’s available, contact Vina at 09 6293500 or vina@migrantactiontrust.org.nz  to arrange time for pick up.  Please bring along the proof of school enrollment, and Community service card (if you have).

 5.   The item I am looking for is not on the available list. Is there any way that you can help me have them?

We rely mainly on the donations of the community for our stocks. However, you can fill up the “Online request form”.  Once we receive a donation that matches your request, we will contact you as soon as possible.

6.    Are the uniforms and the school supplies free?

We are here to help families who are in dire need. They are FREE to families with valid Community Service card. However, we are also open to families who do not have a community service card but we will require a small donation.

7.    How many sets of uniform per child can I have?

Due to limited stock, at the moment we only can supply one set uniform for each child. We also encourage families bring back the uniform when they don't need.

8.    Is there any other way that I can support the School Essentials Recycling Drive (SERD)?

Definitely! Besides donating school essentials, you also can support SERD by

  • Becoming a volunteer (sorting and refurbishing donations, data entry, collect donations from the community)
  • Make a donation (to bank account of “Migrant Action Trust” 12 - 3077 - 0509589 - 00 with reference of “SERD”) to help us purchase washing machine (to wash donated uniforms),  and refurbishing materials (buttons, zippers, threads, etc)
  • Organizing a school essentials collection week in you school, organization or community group
  • Spreading out the word through your friends, families and social media
